Disney’s Give A Day, Get A Disney Day FAQ

From January 1st to December 15th, 2010 Disney offered a free 1-day, 1-park admission to those who volunteer under Disney’s Give A Day, Get A Disney Day promotion. The promotion as since ended, but the information is still here for reference.

This program has resulted in many, many questions being asked regarding how to redeem the GAD voucher, what options are available, etc. So here are a few of the answers in case you found yourself here looking for some…

Note that these answers deal with Walt Disney World – the promotion also applies to Disneyland, but there are some differences.

Once you complete the program, you will be able to print a GAD voucher which you bring with you to one of the four main Disney theme parks at WDW.

I forgot/misplaced my voucher!

Don’t worry, padawan…just got to the Will Call window as normal. They should be able to call up your information.

I heard that Disney is limiting the tickets to 1 million – could I get to WDW and find out that they ran out?

Disney has not officially announced how they are counting or even limiting, but managers have said that they are limiting it by number of vouchers actually issued. So if you are issued a voucher, you are all set. Even if they reach 1 million vouchers, Disney could simply extend or completely unlimit the offer, and there is some indication that they already plan to if needed.

What are the block-out dates?

You cannot redeem a GAD voucher for a ticket at WDW from March 29th – April 8th, or July 4th. If you have a valid multi-day ticket or Annual Pass, you can still choose one of the other options though. Florida Resident Seasonal Passholders can redeem a voucher for the figurine only, as the SP is not valid for admission on the block-out dates.

You cannot redeem a GAD voucher at all after December 15th (when the promotion ends.)

OK, I have my voucher and I am at WDW – where do I go?

Go to any of the 4 main theme parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom), and go to the designated Will Call window to redeem your voucher for your free ticket or other option. For the Magic Kingdom, this can be done either at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), or at the Magic Kingdom gate, where the Will Call window is either at the Guest Relations windows to the right of the turnstiles, or the small round building near there. If for some reason the Will Call window is not open, try the Guest Relations window.

Can I give my GAD voucher to someone else?

No. Only the person named on the voucher can redeem it, and the person must have a matching government issued photo ID (drivers license, passport, etc.). Children under 18 who do not have one can use a copy of a birth certificate.

Can I give the GAD ticket to someone else?

No. The ticket is issued in the name of the person who redeemed the voucher.

Can I save the ticket for another day?

No. The ticket expires at the end of the day it is issued.

Can I upgrade my 1-day, 1-park GAD ticket?

Yes, you can upgrade it just like any standard 1-day Magic Your Way base ticket – the only exception is that you are required to use the ticket first to activate it, as the ticket is not valid until it is run through a turnstile the first time. You can upgrade it to any other MYW ticket and add options, or upgrade it to other classes of ticket such as Annual and Seasonal Passes, etc. You also have up to 14 days to upgrade it (including the day you first used it), so you don’t need to do it right away.

The upgrade value will be the current 1-day MYW base ticket gate price. As of January 1st, 2010 that would be $79/adult, $68/child.

Can I use the ticket at a water park or DisneyQuest?

No, it is only good for one of the four major parks.

I already have a ticket. Can I get a rebate on it, or use the GAD ticket to upgrade it?

No, you cannot get any refunds, or combine two or more tickets into a single ticket.

If you already have a ticket, you can opt to save that ticket for a future trip and use (and upgrade if needed) your GAD ticket. If you have a multi-day ticket (including Annual/Seasonal Passes), you can opt for an alternate GAD offer.

I have a multi-day ticket – what are the alternate options?

  1. A FASTPASS® Exchange Card for yourself and up to five additional members of your group (everyone must be present at the window when you redeem the voucher)
  2. A special Mickey Ears hat figurine and unique trading pins
  3. You can donate your free ticket to one of the following non-profit organizations:
    • Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern California
    • Boys & Girls Clubs of Florida
    • Dreams Take Flight Canada
